We needed a LIMS system that would be able to track tissue saliva samples to ensure compliance with current human tissue legislation, be able to handle the large amount of data that can generated by ELISA and be flexible enough to work with data from researchers as well as external clients.

The Salivary Analysis Laboratory within the Department of Psychology at Anglia Ruskin University (www.anglia.ac.uk/psychology) analyses saliva samples for our own research and acts as the UK's 'Salimetrics Testing laboratory' (www.salimetrics.com) which provides a fast turnaround saliva testing service for Salimetrics Europe serving clients across Europe.

We needed a LIMS system that would be able to track tissue saliva samples to ensure compliance with current human tissue legislation, be able to handle the large amount of data that can be generated by ELISA and be flexible enough to work with data from researchers as well as external clients.

The analysis that we do and the variability of the work we do presents challenges to any LIMS, but AIS have proved extremely good at getting AIS LIMS to work for us. For example, when the default method of getting data onto LIMS didn't work well with our way of working, AIS came to the laboratory, watched the process and then went away and built a custom class for entering the data into the AIS LIMS. AIS have worked very closely with us at all stages of the implementation of AIS LIMS and remain very responsive to changes or enhancements that new developments require.

AIS LIMS is now the 'heart' of the laboratory dealing as it does with almost every aspect of the saliva samples 'life cycle' - from the creation of the barcodes, the entry of the samples into the lab through the analysis of the ELISA data, reporting of results and saliva samples leaving us. The Analytical Quality Control (AQC) module provides us with a comprehensive analysis of a broad range of quality markers within our data and that has enhanced our ability to understand the performance of our assays and to detect when an assay may not be performing adequately.

AIS LIMS
AIS AQC software is available integrated into AIS LIMS or as a standalone product. It contains a set of powerful features for checking results against stored target values. The software will react to, and warn of bias and drift on predefined constants and provide audit trail of AQC breaches when integrated into AIS LIMS.
